The "East Village" is being promoted by the City of Calgary as a 10-15 year private redevelopment of the lands east of City Hall. The area is defined as the Bow River to 9th Avenue SE and Macleod Trail SE east to Fort Calgary. It comprises 49 acres+ and will transition from its current small older industrial character to primarily inner-city housing and ancillary retail/commercial. This area will house 4,500 - 5,500 people and will be developed as a joint venture between the City of Calgary, the most significant land owner and such private developers as Royop and Point-of-View Marketing and Management.
