The Department of Industry, Trade and Technology promotes business investment in Newfoundland and Labrador and the export of goods, technology and services to markets worldwide.

The Department also has a mandate to develop and promote the Province's applied science, advanced technology and information technology profile (in conjunction with Operation ONLINE a public\private sector arms-length organization).

The Province's economic prosperity depands on its ability to maximize local industrial benefits from our large scale natural resource-based initiatives. Successful large scale development projects, like the Hibernia and Terra Nova offshore oil projects and the Hibernia transshipment facility, have resulted in a reassessment of the Province's resources and programs. We've re-organized to meet these challenges. But the challenges don't stop there. The Province faces a bright future in the development of other large scale resource-based projects - Lower Churchill hydro electricity - the Voiseys Bay mineral deposits - untapped offshore natural gas and petroleum gas products and a re-vitialized seafood industry.
