Halifax’s energy sector invests in
the Greater Halifax Partnership
Jan 17, 2000

The emerging oil and gas industry in Nova Scotia has become the biggest driving force in the economy of Greater Halifax. Industry support for the Greater Halifax Partnership has been firmly established with the addition of eight industry-leading companies to the Partnership’s Investor Network, and the recent appointment of Sable Offshore Energy Inc.’s John Brannan to the Partnership’s board of directors.

“All of our investors are committed to our mandate of growing existing business and attracting new companies to our region,” says Bryan Burns, Investor Relations Manager for the Partnership. “This new group of energy investors includes local and international names in the oil and gas industry whose credibility and resources will enhance the already strong Investor Network of the Partnership.” Led by Mobil Oil, Pan Canadian Resources and Sable Offshore Energy Inc., the group also includes local companies including Black & MacDonald, Jacques Whitford, Ocean Resources/Pipeline News, Secunda Marine Services and Survival Systems Group.

To promote and grow this exciting industry, the Partnership has launched a multi-faceted marketing campaign promoting Halifax as “North America’s New Energy Capital.” The Partnership is the force behind an application to see Halifax become the newest World Energy City, an exclusive partnership of energy capitals from around the world. Representing Halifax to this group and to industry-leading corporations, the Partnership is also working hard to form one-on-one partnerships with business development organizations in other oil and gas regions, including the Greater Houston Partnership and organizations in Aberdeen. These relationships are targeted at helping Halifax-area companies export the expertise they are developing locally.

Since the Greater Halifax Partnership was formed in 1996, the ongoing support of the local business community has been key to its success – contributing more than $1.75 million to the Partnership in cash and services. The Partnership is excited to include the energy sector group among the businesses who are investing in Greater Halifax’s future through their support of the Partnership.
